Kyo lay collapsed in an empty alleyway. He was barely awake, his eyes burned, and his chest ached.

He had gotten caught by a charger and just managed to escape. He could smell prey approaching, hear its steps, but he was in too much pain to move. As the footsteps grew louder he lifted his head to try and see it.

[Rifter]

Jacob groaned as he climbed to the top of a pile of debris, carefully weaving around the metal support rods that protruded from the concrete.

Reaching the top, he wiped his forehead as he looked up at the sun, he breathed out through pursed lips. Looking around his feet, he saw a decent chunks of debris. He walked over to it and sat down, he placed the Beretta back into it's holster, but didn't do up the straps. From his pocket he drew a small wrapper, tearing it open, he revealed a small bit of sweet bread. A part of his rations. He took a small bite of the food, intending to make it last as long as possible.

[Jak]

Kyo caught the scent of... something. It was familiar, comforting. He had to find the source.

He managed to drag himself out of the alleyway and to the base of a debris pile, but he could go no further. Looking up at the top of the pile he saw prey. He tried to get up to scare it off, but he just fell onto his side with a short pathetic groan. Remembering a sound he heard prey make he tried to imitate it

"H...ol...p..."

[Rifter]

Jacob heard something, stopping mid-bite, he looked over to the source. His left eyebrow shot up, he recognized the hands as the hands of one of the zombies that he had seen, "Hunter." He breathed.

He had never heard a hunter speak, all he had heard from hunters were yowls, growls and snarling.

Sweet bread in left, he drew his pistol so that it was in his dominant right hand, he slowly edged towards the hunter, unsure of what to do.

[Jak]

Kyo watched in fear as it approached. He knew what it held. Gun. But what was the other thing? The sweet smell?

Kyo attempted to get up again, but fell again, this time on his bruised chest. He yelped in pain. He tried to back away, sure that his yelp alarmed it, but it was useless. Without help he was going to die, either shot by prey or killed by other infected.

[Rifter]

Jacob felt a pang of...something when the hunter fell. He knew that all of these zombies used to be people, but all of the one he had found never responded to pain like this hunter was. Was it possible that this hunter wasn't as far gone as the others?

Jacob jumped slightly at the yelp, but restrained himself from pulling the trigger. Instead, he holstered the weapon and climbed down to the hunter, his gun hand shaking with the instinct to shoot.

On impulse, he carefully held out the sweet bread, he was trying a tactic used by tamers.

[Jak]

Kyo looked between the offered sweet smell and it. Carefully, with a trembling hand, Kyo took the sweet smell. Half-starved, Kyo wolfed down the bread. He looked back at the prey, then towards one of Kyo's 'homes'.

Kyo got to his feet and said "f-... f-fo... low... pays(please)?"

[Rifter]

Jacob just stared at the hunter, he couldn't believe that he was able to understand the hunter; a wide variety of thoughts raced through him, but he ignored them all and nodded, "Follow." He whispered.

[Jak]

Kyo lead the prey. Past Witches and hordes, he knew the quietest path and where the horde was thinnest.

After a fairly long trek, Kyo finally stopped at a familiar door. He looked at the prey and said "ssaf... roam. K-yo made." Kyo opened the door with a bit of difficulty and let it in.

[Rifter]

Stanley was surprised, if this was a trap, the hunter would have lead him straight into the Witches, but he didn't. He followed the hunter into the room, still very careful about the whole thing.

[Jak]

Kyo was noticeably calmer here, though he still clutched his aching chest. Searching pots and other odd spaces he brought out a map of the city. He gave it the map as he checked the safe room door.

Other than certain papers displayed on the walls the apartment was rather normal. Kyo forgot what the papers said, but he knew they made him angry.

(The papers are reports about the experiments on infected and how they were intentionally infecting people)

[Rifter]

Jacob was still dumbfounded as he took the map from the hunter, Why is this hunter helping me? He wondered to himself. His thought rounded back to the thought that, perhaps, this hunter wasn't as far gone as the others.

Taking a few steps, he looked at the papers on the wall, immediately the words "infection," "experiments," and "CEDA" leaped out at him and he felt his heart sink like a stone; he didn't need to read the papers to know what they said. There had been whispers about experimentation from the Civil Emergency and Defense Agency. And this confirmed what he had been worrying about.

((Pointless to say, I'm just throwing CEDA in here for convenience's sake.))

[Jak]

((I'm cool with that))

Kyo dragged a mattress to the main room and brought a few blankets and pillows. When he saw it looking at the paper he approached and removed his hood, revealing a bar code tattoo on his neck.

"Keh-dah... hurt me..."

[Rifter]

Jacob's eye twitched, then impulsively he tore one of the papers off of the wall and tore it into pieces. Turning around, he leaned against the wall and sank down into a sitting position with his knees to his chest.

Looking at the hunter, he decided to try and communicate, "What is your name?" He said slowly, unsure of how well the hunter could comprehend.

[Jak]

Kyo took a moment before replying very slowly "Aun... ta"

He put his hood up, displayed his tensed fingers and repeated "Aunta..."

[Rifter]

Jacob looked at the hunter, slowly deciphering it's speech, "Aunta... Hunter?" He said.

[Jak]

Kyo nodded. Thinking, he tore down some pages that had pictures of infected and explained as he pointed to the corresponding infected

"Sohma"

"Joka"

"Chaka"

"Pitta"

"Bompa"

"Wah"

"Tonka"

[Rifter]

Jacob nodded slowly as he began to understand the hunter's way of pronouncing the names of the Infected, "Smoker, Jockey, Charger, Spitter, Boomer, Witch, and Tank. And Hunter."

[Jak]

Kyo nodded. He pointed at it and grunted.

((He's asking what Jacob is/his name))

[Rifter]

"Jacob." He said.

[Jak]

Kyo looked confused, then tried "J... Jaa... Jaack... Jaaaack"

[Rifter]

Jacob smiled, "Jack, then." He gingerly put a hand on the hunter's head.

[Jak]

Kyo looked up from under Jaack's hand with a tiny "eh?"

[Rifter]

Jacob quickly snatched back his hand under the impression that the hunter didn't like it and was just startled.
